The project risk level under the CGP is determined by considering both how much sediment could be generated and how sensitive the receiving water body is to that sediment. Sediment risk captures potential erosion and sediment delivery from disturbed areas, while receiving water risk assesses proximity to and vulnerability of the water body that would receive runoff. Together, these two factors establish the overall risk level that drives permit requirements and the control measures needed. The other options mix in erosion risk as a separate factor, or include air quality risk, which isn’t part of this CGP risk assessment, or rely on sediment risk alone, omitting receiving water considerations.
